About Amanda
Amanda was born May 19th, 1981 in Cumberland, MD. She grew up in Bedford, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Bedford High School in May of 1999. She is a 2003 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, receiving a bachelor of science degree, majoring in fisheries and wildlife biology. Amanda has volunteered her time with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, braved the wilds of West Virginia in search of potential "poison mice", and glimpsed the beauty of the Smoky Mountain National Park in TN.
She is looking forward to pursuing her master's and hopes to find a job working with wildlife and benefiting their habitat.
About John
John was born in Teaneck, NJ on March 12th, 1979. He grew up in Coral Springs, Florida, eventually amid three other brothers. He graduated from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School. He is a 2002 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree, majoring in electrical engineering.
He is currently employed with Pennatronics, located in California, Pennsylvania and looks to pursuing a master's degree.
How We Met
John and Amanda first met each other on a bowling outing with mutual friends during Amanda’s first year of college. They found conversation came easy between the two of them. John had decided he would ask Amanda out on a date, but was discouraged when he found out Amanda was going to the gym with one of her guy friends. Feeling that this may turn into something more, John was hesitant to ask, until he found out that her guy friend was in fact gay. John asked Amanda out to one of the best coffeehouses in Washington, PA…Café Bean. The relationship eventually developed into more than just platonic.
The Proposal
January 7th, 2004
Amanda and John cradling a baby bearJohn had come home from work and asked Amanda if she wanted to go to Café Bean for the evening. Having been cooped up in the apartment all day and tired of cleaning, Amanda agreed. She was a little confused when it appeared that John was in such a rush to get there, but she dismissed it as nothing.
When they arrived, the place was packed, with only one seat near the window open. Seeing as it was nearly 5 degrees outside, the window seats were very cold. John and Amanda decided to see if the loft was open. When they looked, Amanda noticed the lights were off and the loft was reserved. She thought they would have to sit in the window and freeze their butts off. John said something to the employees, and the loft was miraculously opened to John and Amanda’s use.
Once they got upstairs, Amanda noticed that there were roses and tea candles set up all around the room. Thinking they were crashing someone else’s party, Amanda began to look for the remote to the in-house TV and another area to sit. She saw something in John’s hands and thought he found the remote. She was floored when he got down on one knee and proposed to her with the most gorgeous ring she had ever seen! Amanda was rendered a blubbering mess but was somehow able to say yes. Their dating period ended where it began, and the rest is history!
